Arkansas

Wolf Pen Gap Trail
Ouachita National Forest, Arkansas
If great riding, fantastic views and down-home friendly atmosphere are what you are looking for, you need to give Wolf Pen Gap, Arkansas, a ride.
 


California

Hungry Valley Hungry Valley State Vehicular Recreation Area
Gorman, California
Consisting of 19,000 acres, Hungry Valley offers more than 130 miles of scenic trails for ATVs, motorcycles, dune buggies and four-by-four vehicles.

Ocotillo Wells Ocotillo Wells State Vehicular Recreation Area
Ocotillo Wells, California
Just 70 miles east of Escondido, California, lies the popular Ocotillo Wells riding area, where ATVers can find miles of trails offering every kind of desert riding imaginable.

Prairie City State Vehicular Recreation Area
Rancho Cordova, California
If you're looking for variety in a riding area in California, head off to the Prairie City State Vehicular Recreation Area 20 miles east of Sacramento.


Colorado

Hahn’s Peak Trail System,
Hahn’s Peak, Colorado
A lot of people will tell you that if you’re looking for ATVing nirvana, then Colorado is the place to go.

 

Gunnison National Forest
Pitkin, Colorado

We get questions all the time that go something like: "We want to ride in Colorado, where should we go?" When pressed to narrow it down to a specific location, the Pitkin area of the Gunnison National Forest is one of our favorites.

Rampart Range,
Colorado

Rampart Range is one of the most popular public riding areas in Colorado, and for good reason. Hundreds of miles of well-marked trails will keep you riding for days, plus it features campgrounds and, perhaps best of all, it's only 20 miles from the Denver metro area.


Georgia

Locust Stake ORV Area,
Georgia
There are a number of riding spots in Georgia, but one of the best is the Locust Stake ORV Area in the Chattooga Ranger District of the Chattahoochee National Forest.


Idaho

St. Anthony Sand Dunes
Idaho Falls, Idaho
The St. Anthony Sand Dunes is a massive riding area that offers all of the thrills you could possibly want.

Hemminway Butte OHV Trailhead,
Marsing, Idaho
Idaho has some of the best riding areas in the country. And one of ATVA member Danny Low's favorites is not too far from Boise in the southwest portion of the state.

 


Illinois

South Fork Dirt Riders site,
Taylorville, Illinois

South Fork is fairly new as riding areas go, and in three years they have added something new every year. Recently they opened modern bathrooms and showers, along with a large covered pavilion with picnic tables.


Indiana

Badlands Off-Road Park Badlands Off-Road Park
Attica, Indiana

Privately owned, the Badlands consists of about 800 acres of sand dunes, pea gravel hills, bottomless mud, off-camber woods trails, extreme rock-crawling areas and more.


Redbird State Riding Area,
Dugger, Indiana
Indiana is on the verge of getting its first state-sanctioned off-highway vehicle park: The Redbird State Riding Area near Dugger in the southwestern part of the state.

Haspin Acres Haspin Acres
Laurel, Indiana

Haspin Acres in Laurel, Indiana, has 750 acres of wooded hills offering lots of fun.

 


Iowa

Bluff CreekBluff Creek ORV Park
Bluff Creek, Iowa

The park currently covers 300 acres of diverse terrain with more than 20 miles of trails. The land is mostly abandoned strip coal mines, with terrain ranging from steep hill climbs to rolling hills.

GypsumGypsum City OHV Park
Fort Dodge, Iowa

This new 300-acre park opened July 8, and is envisioned to one day encompass some 1,500 acres, possibly as soon as seven years from now.

 


Kansas

SyracuseSyracuse Sand Dunes
Syracuse, Kansas

This area, 1,280 acres in size, just opened up to ATV riders in 2007, but the community plans to build it into a premier riding area that will attract people from all around the region.


Kentucky

Daniel Boone Trail
Hyden, Kentucky

Southeastern Kentucky offers lots of great riding opportunities, and one of the best is the Daniel Boone Trail. You may even get up close and personal with a bull elk.


Harlan County
Evarts, Kentucky
A very enthusiastic group of local politicians, community leaders and volunteers are planning on turning an old coal mine into a gold mine with thousands of acres in Harlan County.

Big RockBig Rock ATV and Dirtbike Park
Maysville, Kentucky

This 2,000-acre, privately owned riding area just 50 miles from Cincinnati offers riding opportunities for all skill levels in a family-friendly environment.


Turkey Bay OHV Area,
Turkey Bay, Kentucky

Tired of riding the same local trails over and over again? Plan a trip to Turkey Bay in Kentucky. Located right in the middle of the "Land between the Lakes," it offers more than 2,500 acres.


Maryland

Green Ridge State Park
Flintstone, Maryland

If you live in Maryland you might think there isn’t anywhere legal to ride your ATV. Compared to states out west, Maryland is on the smallish side and may have limited riding. But there are still several great places to ride.


Mississippi

Warfield Point Off Road Vehicle Park
Greenville, Mississippi

Warfield Point Off Road Vehicle Park in Greenville, Mississippi, is one of the newest places to ride in the country. It has 45 acres of heavily wooded trails with a natural canopy that provides that deep-in-the-woods feel and an abundance of cooling shade.

Trace State Park
Tupelo, Mississippi

The trails at Trace Lake are just what you would expect when you want a fun ride. There are 25 miles of multi-use trails that can be used by ATVs, motorcycles, mountain bikes, horses or hikers.


Missouri

St. Joe State Park,
Park Hills, Missouri

St. Joe State Park is truly one of the nation’s premier Off-Road Vehicle (ORV) areas. If we could get other state’s ORV coordinators to visit this area, they would experience firsthand what an asset an expertly managed area can be to a community.


Nebraska

Nebraska National ForestNebraska National Forest
Dunning, NE

You may not think of towering trees and a green forest when you think of Nebraska. But maybe you should. The Nebraska National Forest, in the center of the state, provides great sandy riding trails for ATVers.


Nevada

Sand Mountain
Fallon, Nevada

The local federal Bureau of Land Management says the mountain itself is a mile wide and three miles long. And at 600 feet tall, its one of the three highest dunes in the country.

Valley of Fire
Logandale Trail, Nevada
When most of us talk about going to Las Vegas, we think of casinos and night life. But ATVers looking for a different kind of fun should consider a couple of off-road opportunities nearby.


New Mexico

Jemez District of the Santa Fe National Forest
Santa Fe, New Mexico

The Santa Fe National Forest has an area of 1.6 million of acres and is comprised of five forest districts. The Jemez Forest District is located in the Jemez Mountains which are known for their rich native American history.


New York

Rocky Roost Motocross and ATV Park
Monterey, New York

New York is one of the toughest states in the country for finding a riding area. But Rocky Roost park near Monterey is a gem, offering riding for various skill levels.



North Carolina

Roy A. Taylor ATV Trail
Sylva, North Carolina

Wayehutta hosts 30-plus miles of family-friendly loop trails that accommodate all skill levels.




Ohio

Wayne National Forest,
Nelsonville, Ohio

Here at ATVA headquarters in Ohio we get asked quite often, “Where do you ride?” That’s an easy one. The closest public riding area for us is the Monday Creek ORV area of the Wayne National Forest near Nelsonville, Ohio.

Maumee State Forest APV Area
Toledo, Ohio

One of the hardest things to find is a riding area conveniently located near a city, so you can get away for a quick outing. Fortunately, if you live in Toledo or the other urban areas of northern Ohio and southeastern Michigan, Maumee State Forest is close by.


Oklahoma

Lake Murray State Park
Ardmore, Oklahoma
We love Lake Murray for a couple reasons: It's a great family riding area, and it's a perfect example of how your Recreational Trails Program (RTP) grant money can be put to work building and improving ATV riding for everyone.

Little Sahara State Park
Waynoka, Okalahoma
If you are new to dune riding, or have never ridden Little Sahara State Park in Waynoka, Oklahoma, why not try it in the dark? That's right, even after sundown, dune riding is a blast.


Oregon

John’s Peak/Timber Mountain OHV Area,
Medford, Oregon
When it comes to ATV recreation in Oregon, it’s hard to decide where to start, since the state boasts 24 separate OHV areas that allow ATV use. But you won’t go wrong with the Johns Peak/Timber Mountain OHV area, located on the outskirts of Medford, Oregon’s third-largest metropolitan area.


Pennsylvania

Four Seasons ATV Resort
West Finley, Pennsylvania
Could this be the perfect family ATV resort? The Four Seasons Resort, in West Finley, Pennsylvania, is on our “must ride” list and we think you should add it to yours. More than a riding area, it's a resort for ATVs and motorcycles.

Rock RunRock Run Recreation Area
Patton, Pennsylvania

This 6,000-acre former mining site in Pennsylvania is still in the first phase of development, but already it offers 50 miles of ATV trails through lush forests and over a granite boulder field.


Tennessee

With 45,000 acres and more than 300 miles of trails, the Brimstone Recreation area in northeastern Tennessee is a must-visit natural retreat for ATV riders.

Texas

Red RiverRed River Motorcycle Park
Bulcher, Texas

Located on the Texas-Oklahoma border, only 90 miles north of Dallas and 155 miles south of Wichita, Kansas, the park offers 2,700 acres of off-road fun.



Utah

Bryce Canyon
Garfield County, Utah

If you want to plan a family ATV vacation in Utah, make sure your plan includes as much time as possible. You'll need it to see just part of this region, which includes some of the most stunning national parks in the United States.

How does a 60,000-acre riding area and a 700-foot dune sound? Little Sahara lives up to its name, with miles of dunes for ATVers to enjoy.



West Virginia

So many trails, and so little time: That’s West Virginia’s Hatfield-McCoy trail system. There are mountain ridges with stunning views of the Appalachians and countless scenic valleys.
