All the world's an aftermarket show
Feb.
19, 2003 – Want proof that the aftermarket industry is alive and well?
Look no further than the Dealer Expo show in the cavernous Indianapolis Convention
Center this past weekend.
If it's made for ATVs, motorcycles or personal watercraft, it was on display. And though the show is open only to dealers and other industry types, we got a good look at all the new stuff. Lucky for you, we brought along our digital camera.
Aside from the sheer size of the show—it keeps getting bigger every year and now seems in danger of out-growing its current location—it was easy to spot a few trends when it comes to the stuff you'll be seeing in your local dealer's showroom this season.
The ATV accessory market continues to thrive, with new offerings in just about every market segment, from RealTree helmets to snow-tread bolt-ons that replace your wheels, to snow-and-mud paddles that bolt on to your existing wheels. Plows and full-body enclosures seemed perfectly timed for the show, which was socked by more than a foot of snow over the weekend.
In terms of cool quads, several racing machines were on display, including a gold-and-silver-plated short-track machine that looked like a ton of fun, to the offroad machines of the sport’s legends, like Tim Farr and Shane Lee Hitt. In a place where attracting attention is the first step to sales, high-tech ATVs were doing their part.
