Western TT/DT:
Fast and furious racing
The Final Round of the Western TT/Dirt Track Series was held in Tulare,
California, at the Tulare Cycle Park on May 13. This final round had several
classes in tight points battles coming into to the day's event.
The youth classes provided some good racing and great entertainment for all the spectators. In the 90 Production class, Riley Clem took his first win of the series with Riley Salters finishing in a close second. The second-place finish wrapped up the series title for Salters.
Matthew Terra took second-place overall for the series. Michael Newsome finished a perfect series in the Modified 90 class and took the series Championship.
The crowd favorite was the 50cc Class. This is the making of a future Pro rivalry between Stilez Robertson and Noah Patterson. These two tikes have battled it out all series with Stilez edging out Noah for the series title. Patterson took a well-deserved second place for the series.
In the "B" Open class, Heather Menefee (sponsored by Western ATV Promotions) wrapped up her series title with a second-place finish on Saturday.
The 265/450 "B" Class was dominated all series by Washington’s Russell McWhorter (LRD Racing). He took the win on Saturday and won the "B" Championship.
In the Pro-Am class, Frank Batista pulled away to a healthy lead and held off Fred Easman for the win and the series title. Fred Easman made things interesting in the Pro-Am class with his second-place finish. Easman finished second on Saturday and earned himself a third-place overall in the series.
Russell McWhorter took second overall with a strong third-place finish on Saturday.
The Pro Main had three different leaders and they were the top three Pros for the series. Kyle Evans took an early lead until he spun out on the third lap.
Fred Easman took advantage of the mistake and took over the lead for five laps until Batista made his move and passed Easman for the lead.
Batista finished first, Easman second and series sponsor Shaun Patterson took an impressive third after battling his way through the pack.
Evans was the second-place rider for the Pro class in the series with Fred Easman rounding out our top three of 2006.
