Appeals Panel Upholds Penalties Imposed at MX in Virginia
An AMA appeals board recently upheld the two-position penalties imposed on Pro riders John Natalie, Joe Haavisto, Doug Gust and Dustin Wimmer at the ATVA ITP/Moose Racing National Motocross Series event at the Birch Creek Motorsports Park in Danville, Virginia, April 29-30.
The riders were penalized two positions in the second moto by the race referee for jumping while a yellow caution flag was out, which isn't allowed.
All four riders filed appeals on the penalty decision made at the track, and asked that other riders be penalized for jumping as well.
The riders in June presented their cases to an AMA appeals board consisting of experienced AMA Congress Delegates from several districts. The appeals board ruled that the two-position penalties were justified and supported the referee's call.
Additionally, the board agreed with the referee’s decision that no other riders deserved penalties. Track personnel only saw these four riders jumping while the yellow flag was out.
Therefore, the points posted on the ATVA website at www.ATVAonline.com don't change.
