Keith Little Wins Ohio Extreme Dirt Track Battle

Keith Little (#12) of Russellville, Alabama, piloted his Honda TRX450R to a win at the fifth round of the Extreme Dirt Track ATVA Nationals at Pine Lake in Ashtabula, Ohio, July 22-23 and moved up in the points standings.

Pine Lake set an entry record with 572.

Promoter Bud Fisher and crew worked for months hauling tons of new clay to bank many turns, and they completely resurfaced the entire track.

Fisher’s many years of planning paid off Saturday when seven inches of rain flooded the Ashtabula area. When the rain quit, the pit area had only minor puddles, while Interstate 80 was closed because of flooding and many area families were dealing with flooded basements.

A dripping-wet record-setting 572 entries were all wondering how could Fisher possibly pull off racing on Sunday?

And pull it off he did. Practice, qualifiers, last-chance qualifiers and all main events were run Sunday.

To determine who would qualify for the big main event, there were three separate qualifying races.

The first qualifier saw series leader Tim Farr (#4) of Massillon, Ohio, take the checkered first. He also had fastest qualifier.

Little was first in the second qualifier.

Harold Goodman (#708) of Romulus, Michigan, led all challengers in the third qualifier.

A large, cheering crowd lined every inch of the track for the start of the Pro main event.

Off the line first was Little, but Farr was so close you thought they were one. As Little and Farr went into the first turn, it was Darien Ogden (#2) of Dillonvale, Ohio, in third, Goodman fourth and Shane Hitt, (#5) of Buckhannon, West Virginia in fifth.

Little led the entire race with Farr only able to challenge on a few occasions.

The winner of Pine Lake for 2006 was Little, followed by Farr second and Ogden third.

ATVA Director Doug Morris surprised everyone, when he came to the line for the start of the 40+ Class and then raced.
