Keith Little Wins Arkansas Extreme Dirt Track Race

Lonestar Racing’s Keith Little (#12) won the third round of the 2006 Extreme Dirt Track ATVA Nationals at Twin Creeks Raceway in Greenbrier, Arkansas, June 24.

Rain created all kinds of problems for Extreme Dirt Track racers and promoters this season, and Twin Creeks was no exception.

On Wednesday, heavy rains caused a little trickle of a stream to overflow its banks and flood the track.

Friday's practice was about to start when the rain came again, bringing everything to a halt.

On Saturday, practice started at 9:30 a.m. after promoter and race dad Terry Reynolds called in a grader and dozer to scrape off all the newly laid wet clay.

To qualify for the Pro main event, riders took part in three qualifying heats and a last-chance qualifier.

The light turned green for the first Pro qualifier and Tim Farr (#4) got to the first turn first, leading the race from start to finish. Behind Farr was Frank Batista (#13) in second, Scott Morris (#43) in third and Chad Lohr (#151) fourth.

In the second qualifier, Shane Hitt (#5) pulled the hole shot with the following racers in tow: Daryl Rath (#67), Danny McGraw (#143), Michael Coburn (#038) finished 4th and Harold Goodman (#708) was 5th.

In the third qualifier, Little pulled the hole shot and walked away from everyone, with a huge lead and the fastest qualifying time. Brad Covington (#22), Shawn Stamm (#723) and Trent Powell (#809) also transferred to the main event.

Everyone was holding their breath in the main event as 20 of the fastest EDT racers in the country blasted down the front straight and pitched it sideways in turn one.

Little grabbed the lead with Farr, Rath, Goodman and Covington in hot pursuit.

Goodman moved up to third but made a mistake and fell back to fifth.

Lap traffic looked like it could be a factor for Little. But as he hit the straight he would blow by two and three at a time.

Little could feel the vibration from his right rear tire that was trying its best to separate from the wheel. Little’s new sponsor, Tire Balls, prevented a flat and saved the race, earning Little the win.

Farr finished second and Rath claimed third.

Farr leads in the race for the championship over Little by four points, with Goodman, Rath and Hitt rounding out the top five.
