Tread LIGHTLY!

May 10, 2005 – The nonprofit group Tread Lightly! has launched a new series of public service announcement ads to encourage ATVers, off-highway motorcyclists and others to stay on the trails.

Tread Lightly! says the "Play Nice" campaign was created to educate and inspire those who take part in outdoor recreation to minimize the impact they have on the outdoors.

The campaign includes public service announcements for trail biking, ATVing, four-wheel driving, mountain biking, personal watercraft use, boating, fishing, camping/hiking, horseback riding, hunting and snowmobiling.

The ATV announcement notes: "When you were a kid you liked to PLAY in the dirt. You still do, but with respect for all that grows in it. You stay on designated trails and try to minimize your impact. Isn't it NICE to be a grown up?"

The announcement goes on to say: "Our mission is to empower generations to enjoy the outdoors responsibly through education, restoration and research. So join us. Stay on designated trails. Be courteous. Leave a good impression. It's up to you to become an ambassador for your sport and the great outdoors."

Tread Lightly! is a nonprofit educational organization that promotes ethics among outdoor enthusiasts and the industries that serve them. Tread Lightly! says it "carries out programs designed to instill a proactive, low-impact message among enthusiasts, manufacturers, advertising agencies, the media, and children of all ages."
