Kill switch installation kit specifically for the YFZ450

February 23, 2005 – We’ve been asked how to install a kill switch on a new Yamaha YFZ450 with all the extra wires involved, and whether the installation would mess up the CDI. We called on Mark Baldwin, owner of Baldwin Motorsports, for some expert advice and here’s what he had to say.

With everything we do there is a right way and a wrong way to do things. You can splice into your wiring if you do it carefully, but there is a special kit available, and with it you can simply un-plug everything if you ever have a problem or want to remove it in the future.

To properly install a kill switch on a YFZ450 can be difficult, and if not done properly will cause more problems with your quad because you must splice into the wiring harness, which I do not prefer or recommend.

I have developed a kill switch installation kit specifically for the YFZ450. This kit simply plugs into the wiring harness and has an extra wire for the positive wire of the kill switch to connect to.

The ground wire can simply connect to the frame. The installation kit comes complete with parts, instructions and pictures. The cost is $24.95 and can be ordered by calling Baldwin Motorsports at (440) 224-2734, or visit www.baldwinmotorsports.com.
