Nebraska Off Highway Vehicle Association Honored

May 13, 2004 – The U.S. Forest Service has presented the Nebraska Off Highway Vehicle Association with an Honor Award for its work last year at the Nebraska National Forest near Halsey, Nebraska.

The Forest Service cited several specific projects, including trail rehabilitation work, the production of educational material, and a successful effort to get a rescue ATV and trailer for the forest.

The Forest Service also praised the purchase of a storage shed to store the ATV, rescue trailer and medical, rescue and trail supplies.

The Nebraska Off Highway Vehicle Association and Kearney Yamaha earlier had joined forced to provide local rescuers with the needed equipment.

They donated to the Thedford Rescue Squad/Fire Department the use of a 2003 Yamaha 660 Grizzly and a Mountain Goat Medi-vac trailer for use in the Nebraska National Forest.

The Nebraska Off Highway Vehicle Association has also offered to help get additional items for the squad including helmets, emergency equipment, and the storage unit.

This wasn't the first time that the association has helped out local rescuers. In 2001, the association sponsored a rescue unit for the Genoa Rescue Squad and Nance County Sheriff's Department.
