Off-roaders "Take Pride in America"
Jul. 1, 2004 – Some 118 off-highway motorcycle and ATV riders spent all day on June 26 picking up trash from the campsites, parking areas, roads and trails in the Homestake Pass in western Montana.
Most of the more than half a ton of garbage was removed from the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest. The area is just a few miles from Butte and is extremely popular for camping, fishing, hiking, hunting and off-highway vehicle riding.
The event was put together by the Montana Trail Vehicle Riders Association. It was of the broader "Take Pride in America" program. That is a national program to get Americans to share the responsibility for protecting public land by providing skills, resources and volunteer labor.
