World record ATV parade
November 5, 2004 – Riders in the Amity, Oregon, area were on a mission: to break the world record for the number of ATVs in a single parade.
And on October 31 they did it, almost certainly getting their accomplishment in the Guinness Book of World Records once the proper documentation is submitted.
The old record: 84 ATVs. The new record: 262.
About 364 people took part in the event, including riders on motorcycles, three-, four- and six-wheel ATVs, and in dune buggies, antique cars, hot rods and fire engines.
Air Force Reservists on ATVs took part as well as police patrol units from various jurisdictions.
Some of the riders and kids got into the spirit of Halloween, dressing as witches, or Dracula, or Frankenstein. One guy even made up his ATV to look like a coffin.
While one target of the event was to break the world record, it also was an effort to help the needy. Riders brought food and toys to donate to needy families.
The event was organized by Terry Wilmeth, who races under sponsorship from Alba Action Sports, and Gary Tiffany of TVI Power and Sports. Others who helped were Amity Police Chief Dan Brown and Oregon State Police Officer Ken Andrus. Even Amity City Council members lent a hand on the day of the event, as well as the McMinnville Walnut City Kiwanis Club.
