ATVs fight crime
Oct. 16, 2003 – More and more, law enforcement is seeing the value in using ATVs to fight crime and help in search and rescues.
In Florida, the Palm Bay Police Department just got its second ATV, a Suzuki Eiger, donated by the House of Power motorcycle and ATV dealership. Last year, Bombardier donated an ATV to get the department's ATV unit started.
Police use the ATVs to get into areas where patrol cars can't go. Recently, the department used an ATV to help search for a suspect in a stabbing stemming from a road-rage incident.
Officials hope to eventually have four or five vehicles for the unit. Already, 15 officers are trained to use the ATVs.
